The Rivers State House of Assembly approved two significant bills during its regular sitting today. Speaker Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo presided over the session at the Hallowed Chambers, Admin Block, Government House, Port Harcourt.
The Assembly debated the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill 2024, presented by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Orubienimigha Timothy, and the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency Bill 2024, introduced by the Leader of the House, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari. After second and third readings, the House passed both bills.
Speaker Oko-Jumbo praised the sponsors, emphasizing the Transport Bill’s ability to improve security through commercial vehicle profiling, enhance revenue, and boost service delivery. He called the Emergency Management Bill timely, noting it will strengthen the state’s disaster, fire, and accident response.
Both bills had earlier undergone public hearings where stakeholders and the public provided input. The Assembly will reconvene on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
