RISIEC Receives Voters Register From INEC Amid Lawsuit By Tony Okocha

Pastor Tamunotonye Profit Tobins, RISIEC Commissioner for Civic Education, confirmed receiving the voters register from INEC. The register is essential for the upcoming elections and was provided following RISIEC’s request.

Chief Tony Okocha had filed a lawsuit to stop the transfer, but it was rendered “dead on arrival.” Tobins explained that RISIEC obtained the register before Okocha’s legal challenge, making the case irrelevant.

He stressed that RISIEC had already received verifiable records from INEC, undermining the lawsuit’s purpose.

Tobins assured that the scheduled October 5 election in Rivers State would proceed as planned. He highlighted the participation of 18 out of 19 political parties, with the PDP being the sole exception.

On the issue of police security, Tobins clarified that the police are mandated to secure elections under Nigerian law. He emphasized that this duty cannot be restricted, ensuring safety during the elections.
