The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Victor Oko Jumbo, has assured the public that the forthcoming local government elections in the state, scheduled for October 5th, 2024, will proceed as planned, with no challenges or obstacles preventing the process. Speaking today at the commissioning of a rural electrification rehabilitation project in Gbam Bo-ue, Khana Local Government Area, the Speaker emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to holding a transparent, free, and credible election.
Rt Hon Victor Oko Jumbo reaffirmed that the government would not be swayed by any disruptive forces, declaring that “we are committed to ensuring that the LGA elections are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, and we will not allow any obstacle or challenge to hinder the electoral process.” He stressed that the election is a crucial step in reinforcing democratic governance at the grassroots level, allowing the people of Rivers State to choose their leaders without fear or interference.
The event, which marked the successful completion of a rural electrification rehabilitation project, was powered by the CTC Chairman, Amb. Marvin Yobana, who has been lauded for his dedication to improving infrastructure in the local government area. The Speaker commended Amb. Yobana’s efforts, noting that the project will provide reliable electricity to rural communities, enhancing the quality of life and stimulating local economic activities.
“The work that Amb. Yobana has done here shows his deep commitment to the development of this community. Reliable electricity is not just a basic necessity; it opens doors to numerous opportunities for the people, especially in rural areas where access has been limited,” the Speaker remarked.
