Gov. Fubara Reaffirms PDP Loyalty, Swears In Newly Elected Local Government Chairmen

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected local government chairmen on Sunday at the Government House, Port Harcourt. The governor addressed concerns regarding his political loyalty and urged the newly sworn-in chairmen to lead with humility and serve as true ambassadors of their communities.

Despite opposition parties winning all local government council seats in the October 5 elections, Governor Fubara assured the public that his dedication to the PDP remains firm. In attendance were Senator Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, and other distinguished political leaders from Rivers State.

New Leadership for a New Rivers State:

Gov. Fubara highlighted the significance of the swearing-in, describing it as the beginning of a new era for Rivers State. He stated that the event marked a landmark moment for local governance, emphasizing the need for servant-leadership among the newly elected officials.

“Life is not about trying to get everything. If you think it is, you will lose everything,” Fubara told the chairmen. He urged them to focus on service, not self-interest, warning that arrogance could lead to crises in their administrations.

Avoid Confrontation, Focus on Peace:

Gov. Fubara also warned of potential protests planned for Monday by detractors aiming to block the newly elected chairmen from assuming office. He advised the chairmen to avoid any confrontation, emphasizing the importance of peace and urging them to take a patient and calculated approach.

“I am aware that they are mobilizing to confront you tomorrow, but please avoid them. The peace of Rivers State is more important,” Fubara stressed. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous state, ensuring equal opportunities for all.

Gratitude to President Tinubu and Apology for Unintentional Offense:

Fubara acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in ensuring a peaceful democratic process and thanked him for his support during the election. He also extended an apology to anyone who may have been hurt by actions taken during the election process, assuring that all decisions were made for the benefit of Rivers State.

“We want this to be a landmark moment, the beginning of a new Rivers State. I will follow up on what is happening in the 23 Local Government Areas with all my strength to ensure success,” Fubara concluded, urging the new chairmen to remain above board and committed to their people.
