Rivers State Launches Judicial Commission Of Enquiry Into October 7th 2024 Arson, Killings, And Destruction

The government has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violent incidents that took place on or about Monday, October 7, 2024, at several Local Government Council Headquarters. This commission is tasked with uncovering the causes and impact of the arson, killings, and widespread destruction of property during the attacks.

Terms of Reference

  • 1. Investigate the Causes and Identify Perpetrators

   The commission will begin by determining the root causes of the violence and identifying the individuals or groups responsible. This includes evaluating the harm caused to both the citizens and the institutions.

  • 2. Assess the Extent of Damage and Losses

   A comprehensive evaluation will be conducted to assess the extent of the damage to infrastructure, property, and human life. Additionally, the commission will estimate the financial losses incurred due to the destruction.
