Port Harcourt, Rivers State – As Muslim faithful across Nigeria commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during the celebration of Eid-el-Maulud, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has extended heartfelt felicitations, urging the Muslim community to use this sacred period as an opportunity to reflect on the core teachings of the Prophet. In a statement released on Sunday, September 15, 2024, the Governor called for greater demonstrations of love, tolerance, perseverance, and patriotism, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to fostering unity and inclusive development in the State.
Governor Fubara, in his message delivered from Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, stressed that Eid-el-Maulud, which marks the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar, is a time for Muslims to draw closer to the values of Prophet Muhammad, whose life was characterized by compassion, selflessness, and dedication to the well-being of others. The Governor reminded the Muslim Ummah that these values, if embraced collectively, could strengthen the bonds of peaceful coexistence in the State and contribute significantly to the overall progress of the country.
Reflecting on the significance of the celebration, Governor Fubara stated, “I, on behalf of the government and good people of Rivers State, heartily felicitate all Muslim faithful on the occasion of the Eid-el-Maulud celebration, in honour of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. I urge everyone to use this sacred period to offer prayers for the revival and unity of Nigeria.”
Governor Fubara highlighted that the Prophet’s teachings emphasize critical values such as piety, charity, patience, resilience, justice, and peaceful coexistence, which are essential for building a harmonious society. He called on all Muslims to not only celebrate the Prophet’s birth but to also internalize and practice these values in their daily lives, fostering a culture of mutual respect and understanding, especially in a diverse society like Nigeria.
Furthermore, the Governor called on the Muslim community to remain steadfast in their commitment to the growth and development of Rivers State.
