Governor Fubara Pledges Completion of Opobo Ring Road in 3 Months, Bori Internal Roads to Follow

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering key infrastructure projects that will directly benefit the people.

The governor made this statement on Tuesday during an inspection of ongoing road construction in Opobo/Nkoro and Bori, located in Khana Local Government Area. Accompanied by the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Elloka Tasie-Amadi, and the Commissioner for Special Projects, Dr. Roland Obed-Whyte, Governor Fubara expressed satisfaction with the progress made on several projects, including the 5.2-kilometer Kalaibiama/Epellema road, the Opobo ring road in Opobo/Nkoro, and internal roads in Bori, Khana Local Government Area.

He highlighted that the Kalaibiama to Epellema road is designed to connect Epellema, which was previously only accessible by water. The road will enhance development and reduce the risk of boat accidents along the route.

“The first project we inspected was in Opobo/Nkoro, my home area. The road will link two communities, including Epellema, which used to be accessible only by river. We believe that this road will foster development and improve safety by preventing boat mishaps,” Governor Fubara explained.

In Opobo, Governor Fubara was warmly received by the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, and Senator John Azuta Mbata. He expressed confidence that the Opobo ring road project would be completed within the next three months, based on the current level of work.

The governor also reiterated his pledge to restore Bori to its former status as a cosmopolitan city, as envisioned by Rivers State’s founding fathers, by completing the 13.3 kilometers of internal roads that span various streets in the area.

“We are in Bori again, following up on a project that was once stalled. After speaking with the contractor and issuing clear directives, work resumed, and we are pleased with the progress. The aim is to improve accessibility for both the Ogoni people and residents, ensuring that the government’s impact is felt. Bori, as an old city, is part of our broader agenda to revitalize and preserve the vision of our state’s founders. I assure the Ogoni people that this project will be completed within a few months, and we will return to commission it.”

Governor Fubara further emphasized that his administration is dedicated to initiatives that will improve the quality of life for residents. While the Bori internal roads project has been long-awaited, the governor assured that development efforts would not be limited to roads. The ongoing hospital expansion and other projects aimed at attracting businesses and creating jobs are also part of the plan.
