The National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed an appeal against a court order that halted their planned congresses in Rivers State. The order, issued by Justice Godwin O. Ollor, follows a judgment that dissolved the seven-man caretaker committee led by Tony Tony C. Okocha and reinstated Emeka Beke and his elected executives.
The ex parte order, granted in a suit filed by Peter Ohochukwu and Hajja Ndidi-Chukwuma on behalf of the state’s APC executive members, bars the APC National Leadership, chaired by Abdullahi Umar-Ganduje, from holding the scheduled ward, local government, and state congresses on October 11th, 16th, and 26th, 2024. The court also prohibited interference by the APC National Chairman and Secretary with the activities of the state’s elected executives led by Beke.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, APC’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Joshua Musa, announced that his clients had appealed the restraining order. In response, the claimants’ counsel, Collins Dike, requested additional time to address a newly served process.
Justice Ollor adjourned the case to September 26th, 2024, for further consideration.
