Strengthening Synergy: Governor of Rivers State Sir Siminalayi Fubara and CDS Musa Unite to Combat Oil Theft in Rivers State

In a concerted effort to address the long-standing issue of oil theft and illegal refining in Rivers State, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has made notable strides despite ongoing attempts by saboteurs to hinder progress. During a courtesy visit by General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Governor Fubara highlighted the critical role of collaboration between state and federal agencies in curbing these illegal activities.

The Governor emphasized the significant impact of his administration’s fight against illegal bunkering, which has been marked by solid achievements. This effort has now gained further momentum with the establishment of the Niger Delta Monitoring Team by the Federal Government, a team dedicated to eliminating oil theft in the region.

Governor Fubara, speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt, noted that certain detractors have attempted to derail his administration’s efforts by sabotaging economic activities and creating tension in the business environment. However, he assured that his commitment remains unwavering and that the people of Rivers State will continue to benefit from good governance. He stated, “We are faced with a situation where the little that we are doing here is being sabotaged by some persons, but this moment has created an opportunity for us to rewrite those stories.”

The Power of Collaboration

Governor Fubara expressed his confidence in the strengthened partnership with federal authorities, particularly the military, noting the importance of their support in combating illegal activities. With the Nigerian military now involved at all levels, he is optimistic that the combined efforts will result in a “total success.”

He further highlighted the professionalism of the Chief of Defence Staff and the dedication of individuals like Henry Wordu, who was appointed to the Niger Delta Monitoring Team. The Governor emphasized that Wordu’s appointment was based on merit, reflecting his commitment to defending both the state and the country.

Tackling Sea Piracy: The Next Frontier

In addition to addressing oil theft, Governor Fubara revealed his administration’s aggressive stance on combating sea piracy, especially along the waterways near Bonny Island. He announced the acquisition of six gunboats, which will be handed over to the Nigerian Navy to enhance security along critical sea routes. The move, he said, aims to protect innocent travelers and deter pirates who have been terrorizing the region.

 Assured Federal Support

Governor Fubara pledged the full support of the Rivers State Government to federal efforts aimed at boosting crude oil production. This collaboration, he stressed, will ensure the success of initiatives designed to increase national oil output. He reaffirmed, “Rivers State will be part of it to make it succeed.”

CDS General Musa’s Visit and the Path Forward

In his remarks, General Christopher Musa outlined the two main objectives of his visit: to assess the progress of federal directives in securing oil-producing areas and to inaugurate the Defense Joint Monitoring Team and the Defense Joint Intelligence Infusion Centre. These bodies, he explained, are designed to close operational gaps, enhance synergy among security forces, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of oil production.

General Musa acknowledged the importance of Governor Fubara’s leadership in creating a peaceful and conducive environment for the military’s operations in Rivers State. He commended the Governor for his support and assured him of the continued dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces in maintaining peace and promoting the state’s development.

As Rivers State continues to confront challenges posed by oil theft and sea piracy, the enhanced synergy between the state government and federal agencies, along with the military’s commitment, marks a promising step toward a more secure and prosperous future for the region.
